Slippers it is!
Thanks for clearing up my confusion featherz! I agree February has appeared quickly! So, looks like we'll be making slippers... I have a template for adult and baby felt slippers. You'll need 1/8 inch wool felt (not sure about the amount of felt). If time permits, I'm gonna make myself, the baby and Byron some and he has size 13 hoofers so I'll probably get a few yards. That also gives me extra fabric if I mess up and maybe enough for those coasters Gemz posted. I'm thinking about needle felting a design onto the slippers, I have some wool yarn here, so bring your needles if you want to do the same. We can also embroider or applique them. Sound good?

Do we each need to get our own felt, or are you getting it and we pay you back? And do we need needles and thread and scissors and stuff like that?
i am going to JoAnne's at some point this weekend and picking up felt (some chocolate brown, perhaps some charcoal gray? and if they have orange I won't be able to resist) and spending as little money as possible to get us as much as possible.
id be happy to pick up for all of us, Lashez already has some red (right?) and I told her I'd pick up the complimentary colors for her. She brilliantly pointed out that you can get this felt on the bolt (so its big enough for the men feet!)
I just heard Martha say that you could get 65 coasters out of 1/2 a yard of felt :)
she is so organized
Thanks Leah for offering to get the felt... I assume the ladies have contacted you if they want you to pick them up some. As far as other supplies, Maggie, aren't you left-handed? If so, bring your own scissors. If you are wanting to embroider your slippers, bring what is needed. I have yarn to needle felt designs onto the slippers. You can either hand-sew your slippers or I have a sewing machine. It's a really simple project. Can't wait to see you all tomorrow morning!
Bunz can I buy felt from you girl? I just noticed these comments :>
I will be at Lashez at 10 sharp this time;)
okay, minor felt crisis... all I could find at JoAnne's was acrylic felts, which we won't be able to wash very much at all and the stabalizer webbing stuff won't work with it cuz its plastic and it will melt if we iron it... and while I was searching this other girl in the isle said she had already been to mill end and fabric depot and the selection is the same or worse. She said Mill End had an felt that was a decent percent wool, but they also were part acrylic. So where is this 100%wool flat stuff that miss Martha used?!
the plastic crafty wool by the bolt was super duper cheap though, so I picked some up to play around with (brown, gray and orange) and there is plenty for all! We could certainly make slippers somehow out of it, we just can't wash em with good results :)
but heres my idea: wool sweaters that have been retired, we can shrink those down in the wash and use them for the flat felt. I will be looking thru my sweaters later today.
Ooh that sucks Leah! Thanks for trying! I swear Byron & I found wool felt at Joann's superstore. Hmmmm, we could also use fleece. Would you all rather re-schedule craft day for next Tuesday? By then I should be walking well enough to go to a supply store or come up with a new craft idea. I'm sorry to be the whiny & lame preggo gal. Let me know your thoughts (hopefully you're all checking the blog). I'm limping to a breast-feeding class with Tunez tonite from 7-9, but other than that I'll be around.
okay - I was just talkin' to Erin - we are on for tomorrow morning!
oh and if you have any unwanted wool sweaters that you might want to make into slippers, felt them (put them in the wash HOT with soap and then dry it too) and we can cut them up for the flat felt. I'll be doing some tonight, so hopefully if no one reads this we'll have enough to play!
